I am writing this review with utmost sadness. The place is aesthetically pleasing and has a lot of potential but the cleanliness and management are not up to standard. I have been giving the cafe a lot of second chances and I feel like yesterday was my last time going there. I have been there 4 times. Yesterday I was so traumatised by the dirt!
– First time: I was impressed with the decor and I thought to myself this is my new place for work, it’s 15 minutes away from my house. The coffee was not the best but I overlooked that because I take almond milk and I understand the milk is not always nice everywhere you go. I ordered a salmon omelet and it was also not the best, but I thought il try something else next time. I also liked the hazelnut freezo.
– Second time: I was there for a meeting with a friend and she ordered an espresso that came with a dusty saucer. She refused to drink the espresso not trusting the cleanliness of the entire cup. She asked for hot water, but the water came with some strands floating around. She asked to speak to the manager, who apologised for the situation. She then decided to order still water seeing that dirt was the order of the day.
– Third time: I ordered the chicken schnitzel and it was nice, I liked it. But the payment process took 15 minutes. I was told the network has issues at 6pm. I ended up going to get cash in my car. I mean if you know about the network issues, why not make people pay 15 minutes before 6? Now the customer must be inconvenienced waiting and going to look for cash. Really?
– Forth time: the 23rd of November 2023. I arrived at 2 pm and there were no customers in the cafe. I walk in and choose the table that I like. The table is dirty with coffee marks. I look at the one next to it, and it was the same story. I asked the lady to come and clean it. She was standing by the entrance chatting with the lady at the till. She asks if there is a menu on the table I want to sit at and I say no. Common sense tells me that you must clean tables when the customers leave, getting them ready for the next customers. Ensure that menus are on each table if there is your model. The cafe was empty, so why were the tables not cleaned? Even worse, the toilet was the filthiest. I checked the cleaning rooster on the door and it was last signed on the 20th of November. So it has not been cleaned for also 3 days since I was there at 2pm. I have attached pictures of 23 November 2023, the day that was my last straw. We are so used to poor service in South Africa and that is not acceptable! I gave the place 4 chances and it got worse. On this day, I ordered the croissant with scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese, and Danish feta. Firstly, I did not understand why there were two cheeses in that croissant. Even worse, the cheddar was rubbery and tasteless. The bacon also tasted like some thick meat that is not bacon. Nonetheless, I understand customers have different tastes, and I was probably going to try everything on the menu, maybe I would have found what I liked, but the dirt is too much for me to handle! One ends up wondering if the kitchen is clean when there are even dirty cups coming from there.
