It’s Saturday morning – while hubby and I enjoyed our coffee in bed, we said: breakfast? where? I asked: how far do you want to drive? (heehee) Haven’t been to Cullinan in years. Decided to visit Railways Café Cullinan – only when we walked through to the back, did I realize it was the old Jan Harmsgat se Agterplaas. This spot is STILL AS QUIRKY AS EVER!!!! I mean – tin plates in cement walls, tin plates used as garden bedding borders, tin cups hanging from trees …. The back entertainment area is huge! With a stage, draped fabric on the ceiling, fab candelabras, cookie tins against the walls …. it’s just fabulous! A spot in the front garden (with sand at our feet) seemed like a good breakfast spot. Ordered coffee and cappuccino (served in tin cups) – decided to share the ‘Railways Classic platter – R260’. Steak strips, crumbed chicken strips, crumbed mushrooms, focaccia slices, thin chips and jalapeno poppers served with basil pesto and a carrot zing (although they served us cucumber tzatziki and sweet chilli mayo – meant for the other platter). Everything served on a wooden board with a pineapple top in the center. Wow, it looked amazing!!!! (Another couple walked by and later on – based on our platter – they ordered that too!). Everything was just delicious, yummy and good!!!!!!!! Everywhere you look you’ll see something ‘out of the ordinary’ – succulents planted in tins, halved baths turned into couches or chairs … do visit them for a good experience!
