European Film Festival Pretoria Screenings

The European Film Festival concludes its 13th edition with three screenings at Ster-Kinekor Brooklyn over the final weekend of the festival. Pretoria audiences can look forward to an Italian political drama, a charming French family story, and an Oscar-nominated documentary from Ukraine.

La Grazia

Paolo Sorrentino reunites with actor Toni Servillo for this thoughtful Italian drama about love, family, duty, and political responsibility. Servillo plays outgoing Italian president Mariano De Santis, who must confront memories of his late wife and make several consequential decisions before leaving office.

Colours of Time

Four previously unconnected cousins inherit an old house in rural Normandy and begin investigating their family history. Their search takes the story back to 19th-century Paris at the dawn of the Impressionist era, creating a warm comedy-drama about art, ancestry, and the ways the past continues to shape the present.

Porcelain War

This Oscar-nominated documentary follows Ukrainian artists Slava Leontyev, Anya Stasenko, and Andrey Stefanov, whose lives are transformed by the Russian invasion. Once united by their love of creating delicate porcelain figurines, they remain on the frontline and take up unfamiliar roles in the defence of their country while holding onto art, nature, and one another. The film won the U.S. Grand Jury Prize for Documentary at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.
