About 'Die Ander Dogter' Starring Sandra Prinsloo
Veteran actress Sandra Prinsloo returns to the Johannesburg stage in Die Ander Dogter, an intimate Afrikaans solo production based on L’autre fille by Nobel Prize-winning French author Annie Ernaux.
The drama follows Ernaux as she reflects on the older sister she never knew existed. After accidentally discovering that six-year-old Ginette died two years before her birth, she begins questioning her place within a family shaped by poverty, secrecy, and unresolved grief. Believing herself to have been a “replacement child”, she searches through fragmented memories to understand her identity and survivor’s guilt.
Translated into Afrikaans by Naòmi Morgan and adapted for the stage by Saartjie Botha, the production is directed by acclaimed playwright and director Lara Foot. Wolfie Britz provides the production and lighting design. The 70-minute performance carries an age restriction of 13.
