Comic Con Africa 2026

Pretoria’s pop-culture fans have a good reason to make the trip to Johannesburg this September. Comic Con Africa, with Capitec, returns to the Johannesburg Expo Centre in Nasrec from 24–27 September 2026 for four action-packed days of gaming, anime, comics, cosplay, art, technology, and collectibles.

More than 70,000 visitors are expected at the seventh edition of the convention. Fans can show off their costumes in daily cosplay competitions, watch the Cosplay Championships, meet creators, attend industry talks, and catch live sketch battles. Artist Alley will bring together more than 200 local and international artists, crafters, and comic creators, with original artwork and unique merchandise available to buy.

Gaming enthusiasts can try the latest titles in free-to-play areas, watch esports tournaments, enter competitions, and explore activations from major gaming and technology brands. Otaku Town will celebrate anime culture with Japanese food, merchandise, collectibles, and activities inspired by fandoms including One Piece, Naruto, Demon Slayer, and Bleach. Pokémon fans can also join the celebrations marking the franchise’s 30th anniversary.

The convention’s guest line-up includes Christopher Judge, along with performers connected to Rick and Morty, X-Men, The Rookie, and Netflix’s One Piece. Visitors can attend live Q&As or book selected autograph and photograph opportunities.

Families have plenty to explore, too. The 1,200-square-metre KidsCon Zone will feature crafts, gaming, workshops, brand activations, and character appearances. Tabletop fans can learn or play games such as Dungeons & Dragons and Catan, while the outdoor programme includes LARPing, precision driving, electric scooter tracks, lawn games, K-pop performances, and food-truck villages.

The event takes place in Nasrec, so Pretoria visitors should allow extra travel time and check the day’s traffic before leaving.
