Wa Zen Modern Japanese Restaurant Reopens its Doors in Midstream Estate

Midstream Estates’ location has always been a debate over the years. Many believe that the estate is located within the region of Centurion, while others have no doubt that it actually falls within Midrand.

The estate has seen successful growth and development over the years, and it is now home to restaurants and shops which are a walkable distance for residents.

The Return of Wa Zen Modern Japanese Restaurant

Previously hidden in the shadows of Shopping On Ridgeway Centre was Wa Zen Modern Japanese Restaurant, who has recently reopened their doors to the public, and their new indoor dining spot is hard to miss as it’s one of the first shops you lay your eyes on as soon as you enter the shopping centre.

The interior of the restaurant is not too different from what the regulars are used to. Something new which had me a little excited was the addition of new bench cushions lined on the one side of the establishment, creating a more comfortable and welcoming dining experience. The atmosphere was familiar - friendly staff, subtle vibey background music, stunning lighting, and each table dressed with an artificial cherry blossom tree as a centre piece.

Because they’re known for their mouthwatering sushi, for starters I obviously had to order a signature roll accompanied with a refreshing pina colada to celebrate the occasion. The crunchy tempura prawn roll had once again left me speechless.

For mains I picked the teriyaki chicken bowl with fried rice. The portions were incredibly generous, and the flavours were definitely something worth writing home about.

If you’re a picky eater, I guarantee you’ll find something you’re interested in trying from their extensive menu.

They offer a variety of Japanese styled dishes - including poke bowls, fried rice and noodle dishes, katsu curries, bao buns and dumplings, and sushi platters to cater for any occasion.

Their drinks menu is just as great. Not only do they offer the best cocktails in the area, but they also have a selection of Japanese beers for the occasional beer drinkers to enjoy.

The bill came and I was pleasantly surprised by how affordable my two course meal was.

Not only did I have a wonderful Japanese styled dining experience, I didn’t have to break the bank to make it happen.

If you are into Japanese cuisine just as much as I am or would just like to explore flavours and cultures outside of your norm and comfort zone, then Wa Zen Modern Japanese Restaurant should definitely be on your list of restaurants to try out in Centurion.
