Bite into Brunch: Pretoria’s Best Mid-Morning Gems

Staff Writer / December 18, 2025

What we love most about brunch is that anything goes. Order something eggy, something meaty or something sweet and enjoy it with a glass of chilled bubbly or a cappuccino – whatever you feel like! Because brunch is our favourite time, here’s a list of P-town’s best brunch spots.

Freddo Café

Freddo Café is a standout brunch favourite in Hazelwood, loved for its relaxed energy, great coffee and generous mid-morning menu. From classic eggs Benedict and smashed avo on sourdough to lighter bowls and indulgent brunch plates, Freddo caters to every craving. Pair your meal with expertly brewed coffee or a fresh juice and enjoy the lively yet comfortable setting that makes lingering over brunch part of the experience.

Blue Crane Restaurant and Bar

The Blue Crane Restaurant and Bar has a unique, relaxed ambience. Located adjacent to the Austin Roberts Bird Sanctuary, the waterfront deck seating area is the perfect setting for a laid-back brunch. On weekdays you can opt for something from the à la carte menu, like French Toast (layered with bacon and caramelised fruit, topped with mascarpone and toasted almonds) or Bobotie Spring Rolls. Accompanied by a glass of champers, a tomato cocktail or a Mochaccino, you’re pretty much guaranteed a mouthwatering meal. Additionally, on Sundays, you can make a brunch of the legendary Blue Crane breakfast or lunch buffet options. Make sure to book a table in advance.

Old Town Italy

Brunch at Old Town Italy promises to be a buzzing, authentic and cultured affair. Moreover, this relatively new café-deli offers guests ample choice when it comes to seating and menu options, accompanied by a cosy ambience. Some scrumptious orders include classic eggs benedict, shakshuka, french toast and the filled croissant. Add a craft beer – from the enormous collection on offer – cocktail or cold-pressed juice, and brunch is sorted. Bravo, Old Town Italy!

Afro-Boer

Afro-boer ’ s garden locale sets a breezy brunch scene. Enjoy some Plaasbrood French Toast or Chocolate Pecan Banana Bread while sipping on a Flat White Coffee, Crème Brûlée Latte or a Margarita. You’ll have no problem hanging around here way past brunch time.

Vovo Telo Olympus

Vovo Telo is an artisanal bakery, coffee shop and European-style café, all in one, and a great place to have brunch. They sell a selection of freshly filled croissants and decadent pastries; as well as house-blended and roasted coffee; craft beer or boutique wine.

Geek House Eatery

Geek House Eatery in Pretoria elevates breakfast to an exciting experience that resonates with both food enthusiasts and pop culture aficionados. Their breakfast menu is a delightful blend of traditional morning favourites Whether you’re a remote worker or simply seeking a delicious start to your day, Geek House Eatery’s breakfast offerings cater to all palates while adding a dash of geeky charm to the most important meal.

Café 41

Café 41 is a continental, cosmopolitan café with a Casablanca feel. Acclaimed as one of Pretoria’s top seven restaurants, Café 41 offers flavour-filled cuisine. The Meze Platter and Prego come highly recommended and are ideal brunch orders. Moreover, Café 41 also has a Build Your Own Omeltte or Sandwich option to accompany the extensive drinks menu or a glass of vino from the award-winning wine list.

Whisk Wine Bar

Whisk is an eclectic food and wine bar. Brunch menu hits include freshly made Banana Bread, Duck Springrolls and Nathi’s Little Lamb Pizza (pulled lamb, mint pesto, goat cheese and sundried tomatoes will leave subtle flavour hints of a Sunday lamb roast lunch). Make a stop at the bar and enjoy a craft beer, cocktail or a glass of crisp bubbly to get your brunching buzz on.
