MAMMA MIA! Is Coming to Montecasino This October and It’s Worth the Trip from Pretoria

If there’s one musical guaranteed to have an audience singing long after the final curtain call, it’s MAMMA MIA!

The global smash hit is officially returning to Teatro, Montecasino in Johannesburg for a limited season from 16 October to 22 November 2026.

Packed with timeless favourites including Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia, Super Trouper, and Take A Chance On Me, this feel-good musical tells the story of Sophie Sheridan, a young bride-to-be who secretly invites three men from her mother’s past to her wedding in the hope of discovering which one is her father.

A mother. A daughter. Three possible dads. And a trip down the aisle you’ll never forget. Set on a sun-drenched Greek island, the production combines romance, comedy, friendship, family drama, and some of the most beloved pop songs ever written. It makes for a fantastic theatre outing for both longtime ABBA fans and first-time musical-goers.

What Audiences Can Expect

This new South African production features a proudly local cast led by acclaimed theatre and Broadway star Amra-Faye Wright as Donna Sheridan. Joining her are musical theatre favourites Samantha Peo as Tanya and Leah Mari as Sophie Sheridan, bringing fresh energy to one of the world’s most loved musicals.

Expect vibrant island-inspired staging, energetic choreography, colourful costumes, and all the joyful sing-along moments that have made MAMMA MIA! a worldwide phenomenon.

Why MAMMA MIA! Continues to Win Audiences Over

Since premiering in London’s West End, MAMMA MIA! has become one of the most successful musicals in theatre history, delighting audiences across the globe. South African audiences will remember that the musical enjoyed a sold-out local season in 2023. That makes this Johannesburg return one of the most anticipated theatre events on the local entertainment calendar.
