From the Plaas to the Cage: Moer ’n Boer 3 Finale Hits Pretoria

Byron Rode / September 8, 2026

Pretoria is preparing for a high-energy conclusion to Moer ’n Boer Season 3. On Saturday, 19 September 2026, Heartfelt Arena will host the competition’s live finale, bringing together MMA action, local pride, a lively beer garden, and a late-night performance by Afrikaans musician Ricus Nel.

The event is the culmination of a six-month journey for 20 South African farmers who stepped away from the routines of farm life to learn mixed martial arts. After months of conditioning, technical training, sparring, and pushing beyond their comfort zones, the remaining contestants will finally have the opportunity to test themselves in front of a live Pretoria audience.

Only one will leave as the 2026 Moer ’n Boer champion.

From the Farm to the MMA Cage

Moer ’n Boer is not built around professional fighters arriving with years of cage experience. The kykNET reality series follows ordinary farmers as they enter the unfamiliar world of mixed martial arts and learn what it takes to compete safely and effectively.

That journey requires far more than physical strength. Contestants must develop fitness, discipline, timing, defensive skills, and the ability to remain calm when the pressure rises. Along the way, the series also introduces viewers to the farmers’ families, communities, and livelihoods, giving every fight a story that extends beyond the cage.

The series follows 20 farmers through a six-month test of courage, perseverance, and camaraderie. The finale is where that preparation becomes real, with the title waiting for the competitor who can handle the occasion when it matters most.

A Full Day at Heartfelt Arena

This is not an arrive-five-minutes-before-the-main-event kind of outing. Doors open at 10:00, giving spectators the opportunity to make a full day of it.

A beer garden and big-screen entertainment will get the crowd warmed up ahead of the afternoon fight programme. The action begins at 15:00, with the first Versus title fights scheduled for approximately 16:00.

That gives ticket holders time to meet friends, find their seats, enjoy the atmosphere, and settle in before the intensity begins. With the programme continuing until after 22:00, comfortable clothing and an appetite for a long day of entertainment are advisable.

Versus MMA Opens the Fight Card

Professional-level action will help set the tone for the afternoon, with four Versus MMA title fights scheduled to open the card. These bouts provide an experienced counterpoint to the farmer contests that follow. Spectators can expect the speed, technique, and intensity associated with competitive MMA before attention turns to the Season 3 participants and the match-ups viewers have been following on television.

The Moer ’n Boer preliminary card will feature contestants including Dirkie Hanekom, Claude Fourie, Ryno de Jager, and Corné van der Merwe. Each arrives with months of preparation behind him and plenty to prove once the cage door closes.

Across the finale, organisers are promising 10 farmer fights before the Season 3 champion is decided.

The Main Card

The biggest Moer ’n Boer match-ups are being saved for the evening, with the main card scheduled to begin at 20:00.

Heavyweights Hannes Malan and Henko Marais will face one another in a clash that should bring plenty of power to the cage. Both have featured prominently in the build-up to the finale, and their meeting is positioned as one of the major fights of the night.

The light-heavyweight card includes Christiaan de Klerk against Franco Venter. With both competitors having gone through the demands of the Season 3 training process, the contest offers them one final opportunity to show how far they have progressed.

The night then builds towards the main event between JG Niemann and Jannes “Buks” Snyman. It is the bout expected to bring the season’s competitive story to its conclusion, with the title, months of sacrifice, and the pride of their respective supporters all on the line.

Not An Ordinary Fight Night

Part of the appeal of Moer ’n Boer is that the competition is connected to the people and places represented by its contestants. The farmers are not entering the cage as anonymous athletes. They arrive with families, friends, and communities following their progress.

That should give the Heartfelt Arena crowd a distinctly personal energy. Expect enthusiastic supporter groups, plenty of regional pride, and a noisy atmosphere as each farmer makes his entrance.

For viewers who have followed Season 3 on kykNET, the finale offers an opportunity to see the contestants compete live. Those who have not watched every episode can still enjoy the event as a packed MMA card followed by an Afrikaans concert.

Ricus Nel Performs Live

The entertainment will continue after the main card, with Ricus Nel scheduled to take the stage at 22:00. Known for upbeat Afrikaans favourites and a lively stage presence, Nel will help turn the final stretch of the event into a celebration. His performance will be followed by the official awards presentation and a fighter photo session, allowing the competitors, organisers, and supporters to mark the end of Season 3 together.

The combination of sport and live music gives the finale a festival-like quality. Spectators can arrive for the daytime social atmosphere, stay for the fights, and end the evening with a concert once the new champion has been crowned.
