Become A Tourist In Your Own City

Not all who wander are lost. Why not lose your way intentionally through your own city with our nifty little guide.

Eat

Beerhaus Bavaria

By far one of our favourite restaurants for just about anything – from beer to bratvurst and everything in between–Beerhaus Bavaria in Pretoria East also serves up a mean hamburger. Think big patties made to perfection by hands that have seen decades of kitchen work. Yup, these burgers are handcrafted and topped with mature cheese, the most beautiful greens and a streak of bacon or three. We suggest you wash this down with one of the many craft and Bavarian beers they have on tap.

Old Town

When you sit down at Old Town Italy, you enter a whole new atmosphere. The high ceilings and wall-to-ceiling windows on one side add an open, spacious quality to this restaurant. The outdoor seating offers an ideal view of Menlyn Maine’s plaza square, making it a great place for people-watching. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly – they do their best to ensure that you have a good time.

Tranna

The interior is low-key and casual but don’t be fooled: the dishes on the menu are bursting with flavour, and, upon request, have a proper spice kick. Tranna only uses the best ingredients like fresh spices and herbs, the A-grade meat and the freshest vegetables, every dish is simply sublime.

Party

Park Acoustics

Park Acoustics has turned into a monthly one-day festival, pulling in a mixed crowd of starry-eyed people by the thousands. The Park Acoustics vibe is very laid-back and lazy. Many attendees go all out and rock up with picnic blankets and a braai (such a South African thing to do at festivals). The best part about Park Acoustics is getting a bit of a buzz going from a couple of drinks and watching the sun set from the top of the hill. If you've not done that before then we suggest you to check out the next Park Acoustics gig.

Capital Craft

We can't write an article about craft beer hopping in P-Town without mentioning Capital Craft in Menlopark, right? Right. Well, it's the kind of place you go to to enjoy a good burger with a great craft beer. Their mission is to support the South African craft beer craze to the fullest of their ability – and they're doing a stellar job at it. You can expect the usual suspects such as Aces, Brewdogs, Redrock and many more.

The Collection

Set in a secret garden dedicated to the Pretoria market scene, The Collection is your go-to place for all things artisan. Be it food or handmade goods, this is one market that stands out above the rest. From its vintage-themed sports pub to the ducks in its pond, there is something soothing about this venue. Cowhouse Market

By far one of the coolest markets in Pretoria, the Cowhouse Market is set down a long, dusty road inside a, you guessed it, cow house. This massive market has something for everyone – from thrift store clothes to vetkoek and mince. With live music and over 42 stalls, the owners have made sure to have a wide variety of food, drink, entertainment and craft stalls available. The Cowhouse gives back to the community by donating a percentage of their bottled water profit to Club 21 School and great effort has been taken to recycle water used during their festive duck race in order to create a sustainable and conscious event.
