Time 4 Wine @ Brooklyn Mall - Summertime Wines

Time 4 Wine was hosted by Con Amore Home Brooklyn Mall. 

Our theme for the evening was Summertime wines - MCC (bubbly), white wines, cocktails and summer reds. 

 

Cape wine master Junel Vermeulen had us mesmerized as usual by her passion for wine. 

 

Some of the things we learned was how to easily make a few colourful cocktails for the next “pool party”. 

 

1. Red cocktail - bubbly & cassis

2. Breakfast cocktail - bubbly & orange juice

 

3. Blue cocktail - bubbly & blue curaçao, add a cherry to make it look even more attractive. 

 

 

Time 4 Wine @ The Harlequin Restaurant - Vrede en Lust

Time 4 Wine was hosted by the popular harlequin restaurant, in Groenkloof.

Vrede en Lust is a family owned and operated wine estate in the beautiful Franschhoek Valley, South Africa.

Nico Davel is the Brand Ambassador for Vrede en Lust and was as entertaining as ever with his interesting stories about the history of this estate and his comical song choices to introduce each wine.

On the menu:

  • Vrede en Lust Dry Rose (grapes from Simonsberg-Paarl) - Explosion of ripe red cherries, watermelon and strawberry, combined with red summer fruit flavours on the nose followed a smooth, mouth watering finish. 80% Pinotage 20% Shiraz.

    Pairing: This juicy, fruity wine was paired with an equally juicy and fruity canapé of Strawberry, brie and basil pesto.

  • Vrede en Lust White Mischief (grapes from Elgin) - Unique blend of 5 white grapes! Citrus, floral and tropical notes on the nose are followed with hints of white pear and fruit salad on the palate. Soft, beautifully balanced mouth-feel. No pairing

Time 4 Wine @ Brooklyn Mall - Malbec & Merlot

Time 4 Wine was hosted by WeylandtsBrooklyn Malland presented by wine master Junel Vermeulen. Our theme for this tasting was SA vs International Malbec & Merlot

On the menu:

  • Bellavue Morkel Malbec - SAPaired with spicy pork rillette on sourdough bruschette with a horseradish foam and beetroot chip
  • Misterio Malbec from ArgentinaPaired with grilled plum and whipped gorgonzola cream wrapped with prosciutto and a rosemary spear.
  • Meinert Merlot - SAPaired with Medallions of confit duck on a vanilla turnip puree & mange tout, finished with a jus de gras & blueberry coulis with crackling
  • Ronan by Clinet Merlot from FrancePaired with Merlot gluhwein poached pears with vanilla bean ice cream and Amarula chocolate sauce.

Time 4 Wine @ Brooklyn Mall - Italian

Time 4 Wine was hosted by Sotran Tropical Decor and Furniture- Brooklyn Mall Pretoria, Brooklyn Mall and presented by wine master Junel Vermeulen. Our theme for this tasting was “Explore Italy” with four lovely Italian wines and delicious Italian cuisine prepared by Cafe Bugatti, Brooklyn.

On the menu:

  • Bellenda Prima Cuvee SpumanteThis delicate, aromatic sparkling wine, made from Glera grapes is produced in Venice Italy. Paired with Minestrone soup & a selection of Italian breads with olive tapenade, sundries tomato pesto, olive oil & balsamic vinegar.
  • Zenato ValpolicellaProduced in the Verona province of Italy from 85% Corvina, 10% Rondinella, and 5% Sangiovese grapes. The wine is crisp and dry in the mouth, well structured, with a lovely, velvety texture.
  • Badia a Coltibuono Chianti ClassicoProduced in the Tuscany region on Italy from Sangiovese & Canaiolo grapes. A dry red wine, with elegant, balanced tannins, good acidity and a long persistent finish. Paired with Oxtail beautifully infused with juniper berries, fennel and cinnamon and slowly cooked for hours in the oven in a red wine and tomato sauce.
  • Feudi di San Gregorio PrimitivoProduced in the province of Taranto from Primitivo grapes (similar to Zinfandel from California)
