Pai For The Love Of Food Is Now Open in Cape Connection

If you find yourself in the Maroelana area and you’re in need of a pick-me-up, pop in to Pai - For the Love of Food in the Cape Connection Centre.

Now in its second month of business, this quaint little café-bakery serves up some delicious pies, quiches and sweet stuff, with humble flair. This is also quickly becoming the go-to spot for cooking classes and the Pai Long Table Dinners might well become meals not to be missed.

Pai – For the Love of Food is a bakery-café concept that recently opened a second venue in the Cape Connection Centre in Maroelana. This amiable little locale is decorated in a delightfully down-to-earth style. As you sit down on a bench at one of the lengthy communal tables, the air of companionship that eating together creates, plus an abundance of fresh air and natural light, makes you feel welcomed.

The delicacies of the day are unpretentiously displayed on a farmhouse table and offer a selection of mini quiches, artisan pies, large meringues, assorted macaroons, cakelets and rectangular tarts. The Tongue & Mustard and Pork, Apple & Sage pies are welcome additions to the usual Chicken & Mushroom and Pepper Steak options.

If a slice of Lemon Meringue doesn’t hit your sweet spot, try one of the decadent (and downright humongous) caramel-filled meringues. For the macaroon-lover, why not introduce yourself to a few ladies from Pai’s charming macaroon troupe: Kate’s Lavender, Annika’s Strawberries and Cream, Josephine’s Earl Grey, Daphne’s Peppermint Crisp, Louise’s Coconut or Sarie’s Milk Tart. You can also choose from a selection of Pai marmalades, spreads and pâtés to buy and enjoy at home.

The drinks menu offers the typical hot and cold beverages with the Belgian Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows a firm favourite – no matter the weather!

As with any new eatery, there’re still some practical wrinkles to iron out, but the efficient manner in which the staff deal with these issues, friendly service and delectable food leave you feeling satisfied.

Long Table Dinner events at Pai are a fantastic way to meet like-minded people or spend quality time with loved ones. These dinners consist of a three- or four-course set menu, usually of a specific cuisine, with eight to ten guests seated at a table. Drinks from the regular Pai menu are served but you can bring along your own vino. Keep an eye on the Pai Facebook page for details of the next Long Table Dinner event and enjoy an evening of fine food with family and friends.

Annika at Pai, the in-house catering team at Pai, caters for all occasions: everything from family dinners on Friday night to wedding dessert tables. The catering menu options are available on the Annika at Pai Facebook page.
