Time 4 Wine @ Brooklyn Mall - SA vs Germany

Time 4 Wine was hosted by Con Amore Home Brooklyn Mall.

Our theme for the evening was SA vs Germany, where we mostly discussed the aromatic white variety, Riesling.

Riesling is a white grape variety which originated in the Rhine region of Germany. Riesling is an aromatic grape variety displaying flowery, almost perfumed, aromas as well as high acidity. It is used to make dry, semi-sweet, sweet, and sparkling white wines.

Because of Riesling’s sweetness and acidity, it makes the perfect accompaniment to spicy food. Strong Indian and Asian spices are a perfect match with Riesling.

On the menu:

1. Villa Huesgen Alte Reben Riesling 2014 - German

The Riesling grapes of this premium wine grow in the historic vineyard Enkircher Steffensberg that previously belonged to the Huesgen family. Alte Reben is hand-selected from 100-year old vines and brings a very small, but concentrated yield.

Intense flavours of lime & pineapple with fabulous aromas of honey and citrus blossom.

The epitome of Riesling.

Pairing: Wedge Salad with Bacon, Blueberries, Blue Cheese & Candied Almonds.

2. Hartenberg Rhine Riesling 2013

Spicy richness on the nose with lime zest and apple on the palate.

Pairing: Thai Style Bobotie Balls

  • 3. Creation Pinot Noir 2014

Deep ruby in colour, gleaming and inviting in the glass. The intensely fragrant bouquet shows a melange of red berry aromas, elegant vanilla and a whiff of wood spice.

Pairing: Wild Mushroom Risotto drizzled with shavings of 99% Dark Chocolate.

    4. Paul Cluver Riesling Noble Late Harvest 2014

Packed with apricot, spice and honey characteristics on the nose.
