Time 4 Wine was hosted by Con Amore Home Brooklyn Mall.
Our theme for the evening was Summertime wines - MCC (bubbly), white wines, cocktails and summer reds.
Cape wine master Junel Vermeulen had us mesmerized as usual by her passion for wine.
Some of the things we learned was how to easily make a few colourful cocktails for the next “pool party”.
1. Red cocktail - bubbly & cassis
2. Breakfast cocktail - bubbly & orange juice
3. Blue cocktail - bubbly & blue curaçao, add a cherry to make it look even more attractive.
On the menu:
L’Ormarins Brut Anthony Rupert - Bubbly made MCC method, 55% Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Noir
Delicate peach hue. Constant stream of fine bubbles. Appealing aroma of candied apple, citrus pith and light flinty, limestone nuance. Distinctly fruity white peach and apple entry. Good vibrance and crisp crunch of acidity to balance the ripe fruitiness. Rounded, creamy, broad and textured in the mouth. Elegant and statuesque. Its long aftertaste finishes on a light lemon zest note.
Pairing: Citrus Couscous Parcels
Avi’s Drift Sauvignon Blanc 2015
Attractive pale straw colour. The wine is light and fruity with aromas of grenadilla and asparagus. The palate is nicely balanced with a full body with a fresh zingy finish. Great for seafood or as an aperitif.
Pairing: Asparagus with Mushroom Dexelle, Parmesan Cream & Balsamic Caramel (This dish was served with a poached egg to show us that eggs and wine do not pair well)
Haute Cabriere Unwooded Pinot Noir - Pinot Noir is a light style red wine and is served chilled, perfect for a summer afternoon.
The brilliant red colour is indicative of the elegant red berry aromas, which follow through to the palate showing enticing, concentrated ripe cherry and cranberry flavours. Designed to be enjoyed immediately, with good food and friends.
Pairing: Canard A L’ Orange (Duck) marinated in orange, honey, cinnamon, soy & cinnamon served with orange segments and wild rocket.
Welgemeend Cabernet Franc Rose
This Cabernet franc Rose is a beautiful salmon colour with floral , rose water and fresh berry aromas prevailing on the nose. The palate is deliciously crisp with fresh berry, light tropical fruit, Turkish delight and zesty lime flavours. The after taste is characterized by lingering crisp minerality and lime leaves. A delightful wine!!
Pairing: Eastern Mess Dessert - Eastern version of an eton mess perfumed with rosewater & combined with raspberries, basil & pistachio.
