Then And Now: Park Acoustics

Have you been to Park Acoustics before? Here's a little history lesson on where the this once-a-month music festival came from.

On 21 May 2010, Christo de Beer and partners in crime gathered a handful of local musicians, invited a couple of people and had a lekker time at the Pretoria National Botanical Garden. Now, almost a decade later, that fateful Sunday afternoon snowballed into something so big that it outgrew its original venue. Today, Park Acoustics has become a monthly outdoor music festival held at Fort Schanskop. On the last Sunday of every month music fans flock here to catch some of South Africa’s top indie, folk, rock and rap stars.

With the ad-on of Jack Daniel's other sponsors, Park Acoustics has turned into a monthly one-day festival, pulling in a mixed crowd of starry-eyed people by the thousands. The Park Acoustics vibe is very laid-back and lazy. Many attendees go all out and rock up with picnic blankets and a braai (such a South African thing to do at festivals). The best part about Park Acoustics is getting a bit of a buzz going from a couple of drinks and watching the sun set from the top of the hill. If you've not done that before then we suggest you to check out the next Park Acoustics gig.

Festival-goers should be aware that no glass is allowed within the festival site. Tickets can be bought online at the Park Acoustics website, where the lineups for upcoming events are also available. Takes place on the last Sunday of every month from 12:00 to 18:00.
