Merry Markets in Pretoria

The festive season is upon us. And you know what that means, right? An onslaught of red and green, Christmas trees, mall Santas and Boney M on your airwaves. There’s no way to outrun it, so why not embrace it? We’ve rounded up some Christmas markets you could visit to get yourself into that merry mood.

Christmas Markets

Nickel Xmas Market

Another Market with a cause is the 17th annual Nickel Xmas Market. The multi-day market started as an effort to garner much-needed funding for the Kungwini Welfare Organisation. It’s also become an annual job creation project, giving crafters a chance to sell their handiwork. There will be a range of goodies, handcrafted items and food for you to purchase at this market. In case you don’t feel like carrying cash, you will be able to use Snapscan as a payment method. You’ll find a beer garden at this year’s market, as the local Hazeldean Craft Brewing Company will be supplying craft beers for the duration of the multi-day market. Be sure to drop by this market to support a local charity, as well as our local crafters.

Christmas Markets

Jacaranda Children’s Home Liggiesfees

Lights, charity, action! Though not a market in the traditional sense, this wonderful festival runs for the whole month of December. The children’s home is opened to the public for the month – and it’ll be a sight to behold. If you’re looking to brighten up your December, this’ll probably do the trick. Here you’ll find the 21 houses and the rest of the premises adorned in millions of lights. Various food stalls will be available – and you’re sure to build up an appetite. There will be a big wheel, a train and carousel rides. They have various live music acts playing throughout the month, so go and check out which one’s you’d love to see. There are also some laser shows on the schedule. There is a small donation of R20 disguised as your entrance fee. The event is wheelchair accessible, and no alcohol will be allowed. But do feel free to bring your dogs along, as this is a canine-friendly event.

When: 1 December to 31 December 2017
