Where To Eat

Thanks to a variety of quality cafés, catching a bite almost anywhere Brooklyn is pure joy. Here are our top foodie finds in the area.

Broodhuijs

Broodhuijs is an artisanal bakery, coffee shop and European-style café all in one. Take your pick from a range of freshly baked breads used to make gourmet sarmies topped with home-made pesto, marmalade, chutney, salsa and international cheeses; a selection of freshly-filled croissants and decadent pastries; mouthwatering pizzas; house-blended and roasted coffee; craft beer or boutique wine. The tasty menu options and friendly ambience make Broodhuijs a popular place for breakfast, lunch or afternoon drinks and snacks on the terrace. Be sure to pick up a fresh multigrain, beetroot or pumpkin loaf on your way out.

Jam and Daisies

Rooted in a passion for nature and comfort food, Jam and Daisies is a charming garden café and a leisurely spot to have breakfast, brunch, lunch or just some coffee and cake. Menu options include Fancy Scrambled Eggs, a variety of French Toast, Crumpets, Quiches, Filled Pancakes and Anytime High Tea.

Jam and Daisies uses only free-range poultry and serves Fairtrade coffee. Open on weekdays from 07:30 to 16:00, Saturday from 08:30 to 16:00 and closed on Sunday.

Tashas

Tashas is boutique lifestyle café offering all-day dining. Inspired by Dutch Huguenot, the interior of this popular café is as beautifully designed as the menu. Tasha’s signature dishes include local favourites with a twist: Cranberry Bobotie, Biltong and Avo Salad, Lamb Pasta and Pampoenkoekies With Ice Cream dessert.

Located in the trendy open-air Brooklyn Design Square, Tashas is an all-round great experience. Open Monday to Thursday from 06:30 to 21:00, Friday and Saturday from 06:30 to 22:00 and Sunday from 07:30 to 20:00.

Brooklyn Mall has pretty much everything you need all under one high-end roof, but there are a couple of other great shopping options in the surrounding area as well.

Brooklyn Mall

With 220 specialist and luxury retail stores, Brooklyn Mall and Design Square is a vibrant shopping and dining hub catering to the most discerning shopper’s requirements. Brooklyn Mall anchor tenants include Woolworths, Edgars, Checkers, Dis-Chem and Ster-Kinekor. Recently opened retailers in this trendy mall include Wellness Warehouse and X-trend.

Brooklyn Mall is open weekdays from 9am to 7pm and weekends from 9am to 5pm.

Waterkloof Corner

Waterkloof Corner shopping centre has a variety of shops and restaurants that allow customers a quick and convenient in and out shopping experience. You’ll find all the usuals: Spar, Absolute Pets, a hairdresser, pharmacist, optometrist, florist and Piza e Vino pizzeria. You’ll also find some great one-of-a-kinds like The Village Pantry, an organic produce market and café, Leipoltd’s Restaurant and Oi! Active, an established Brazilian sports and swimwear retailer.

The Club Centre

The Club Centre is an upmarket shopping and dining centre. Situated opposite the prestigious Pretoria Country Club, a short 10-minute drive from Brooklyn, The Club Centre tenants include Woolworths, Sorbet Salon, Paul Mitchell Hair Salon and HotPod Yoga Studio. Restaurants include Hogshead, Life Grande Café and the ever-popular Pachas.

Austen Roberts Bird Sanctuary

The Austen Roberts Bird Sanctuary, located walking distance from Brooklyn Circle, is home to a wide variety of bird- and wildlife. One of the few places where the crowned and blue crane can be seen, attending a guided walk through the sanctuary is well worth the R55 fee. Make sure to book well in advance!

Brooklyn Theatre

Why not catch a show at Brooklyn Theatre while you’re in the area? The Brooklyn Theatre is a 400-seat auditorium that lends itself towards intimate as well as large-scale musical events. The theatre acts as an integrated venue for a range of local and national musical and arts endeavours. Up-to-date information on current shows, recitals, exhibitions and talks are available on the theatre’s website and Facebook page.

Vanity Night Club

Make sure to arrange a babysitter because this one is for Mom and Dad only. Vanity is a glitzy nightclub located on the second level of Groenkloof Plaza. Club events regularly see the hottest local DJs and musical acts performing live. Vanity opens on Friday and Saturday evenings at 22:00.
